Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan and prepare for furnace tapping

  1. Access, interpret and apply tap furnaces documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  2. Obtain and clarify/confirm verbal and written work instructions before proceeding
  3. Establish and maintain communication with other personnel using approved communication methods
  4. Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  5. Identify, address and report potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  6. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for an emergency
  7. Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
  8. Ensure adequate ventilation to work area before commencing the work activity Select, and check for faults, tools and equipment for work activities
  9. Set up equipment for tapping
